Vivek Ramaswamy is rising in the polls

Poll Numbers

On May 30, 2023, Vivek Ramaswamy was polling at 3.1% for the republican presidential nominee race. On August 21, 2023, he was polling at 9.3% according to FiveThirtyEight . In the span of about 12 weeks, Ramaswamy has tripled his number of supporters. However, who is he and what are his political opinions?

Politics and History

According to Vivek himself, he is a businessman and an author. Ramaswamy has no political career history. He has written multiple New York Times bestselling books. All of which are politically themed. He earned a biology degree from Harvard and a Juris Doctorate degree from Yale. After completing his J. D, Ramaswamy started a bio-tech company.

On his presidential campaign website, Vivek has several economic plans to improve the economy. Some of these include: increasing fracking, encouraging trade school over universities, and putting Americans back to work. Some of his societal views are: god is real, the nuclear family is the best type of family, and an open border is no border. One of his foreign policies is called "Declare Independence from Communist China". In his proposed policy, he would stop the Communist Party of China from purchasing American land as well as ban U.S companies from expanding into China.

How the Media Reports Him

Recently, Ramaswamy has come under fire for some comments made about 9/11. In a Fox News article titled "Vivek Ramaswamy on 9/11: 'I don't believe the government has told us the truth'", Ramaswamy states that he thinks the Saudi Arabian government may have been involved in the 9/11 terrorist attack. According to AllSides, Fox News has a republican bias. In an article published by The Guardian titled "Vivek Ramaswamy condemned for 9/11 and Jan 6 conspiracy theory remarks", it includes different people's opinions about the quotes. It also includes more direct quotes from Ramaswamy relating to 9/11. According to AllSides, The Guardian has a left leaning bias.

The different titles show a major difference in what the news stories are reporting. The Fox News article  shows a quote while The Guardian Article includes the word "condemned". Therefore, one news company is showing criticism behind the quote just from the title alone. Each title will draw in different viewers.
