A New Candidate with a Familiar Name

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Official Campaign | Kennedy24

Who is he?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or RFK Jr. belongs to a well known political family.  His father, Robert F. Kennedy Sr., ran for president in 1968 and his uncle John F. Kennedy was a president. Both were assassinated. Instead of jumping into politics at an early age, RFK Jr. devoted himself to environmental law and the welfare of children. He is the founder of company named Waterkeeper Alliance which is a clean water advocacy group. Children's Health Defense is another company he founded.  This company focuses on children's chronic diseases and toxic exposure according to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. He is running for the presidential nomination for the Democratic Party.

Politics

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants to stop what he calls the censorship-industrial complex. According to Robert, the censorship-industrial complex is when social media companies will suppress citizens comments or post on social media because the government tells them to. Kennedy Jr. promises to end the mass surveillance of citizens. He also want to bring political parties together in order to stop the divide in the United States. He states he wants both parties to be able to express their concerns.

What the media is saying about him

According to AllSides, Daily Mail has a right leaning bias. AllSides checks every media company and state what biases they have. Daily Mail wrote an article were the title referred to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a "Recovering heroin addict". It is true that RFK Jr. was addicted to heroin at some point in his life. In the rest of the article, Daily Mail discusses how RFK Jr. wants to heal America from an addiction and mental health crisis. He also wants to do the same in Ukraine.

The Daily Beast is a media company that AllSides rates as having a left leaning bias. In an article titled "Meet the Misfits Working to Elect RFK Jr.", The Daily Beast describes RFK Jr. campaign as "conspiracy ridden". They then discuss how some of is his campaign staff are not qualified.

I find it interesting that both media companies seem to be critical of RFK JR. I would have expected a left leaning media company to show a little more support for someone who identifies as a democrat.

  1. I'm really curious about what we will see come of Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) because he is a rather open-spoken person in his ideologies and beliefs. We are at the very beginning stages of candidates making a name for themselves but RFK has a very historical family name that will allow him to get a lot of recognition. I haven’t heard or seen much of RFK but I have seen some podcast with him where he described the condition he has leading for his well-known raspy voice. The little I have seen on the news seems to be first-hand attacks on RFK which acknowledge his many conspiracy theories along with many of his remarks during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the election goes along i’m sure we will continue to see many articles attacking candidates and putting them in a negative light.
