Trump turns himself in

Charges

Former president Donald Trump has been charged with violating Georgia RICO laws, conspiracy to commit forgery, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, and a slew of other charges according to Scribd. These charges are are being filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Fulton County is located in the state of Georgia.

What the News is saying

In an article called " The Georgia Indictment Is Serious, but It Also Overreaches  " posted by the National Review, discusses how the charges against Donald Trump are very serious but it is severally overreaching. The article discuss the differences between Trump's Federal charges and his state level charges. According to the National Review, the charges are overreaching because the indictment depends on political statements. For example, Trump's speeches that try to persuade officials to act would count as political statements. The National Review believes the statements should not matter because they were never official documents. The National Review has a far right bias according to AllSides

In an article posted by Democracy Now! titled "Inmate P01135809: Trump Surrenders to Jail in Georgia, Booked on 13 Felony Counts", two guest are interviewed about the case. One of the guest is a reporter from The Guardian. According to AllSides, The Guardian and Democracy Now! both have a left leaning bias. One of the guest makes a note that the actions that Trump made were similar to Jim Crow era laws because 90% of African-Americans voted for Joe Biden. The other guest analyzes Donald Trump mugshot. The guest says Trump's mugshot photo was practiced beforehand and in his eyes he looks fearful.

The Difference in Reporting

The right leaning National Review takes the approach that Donald Trump's charges are too much and he should not be charged with anything. However, they also note that the charges are serious. The left leaning Democracy Now! discusses the indictment as a good thing. They believe Trump has committed multiple crimes and deserves punishment. One would expect that a right leaning media source would not agree with the Trump charges while a left leaning media source would agree the sources. The same event occurred but the different media companies came to different conclusions.
