Donald Trump: Colorado Court Case?

  Background According to the  The Colorado Sun , a liberal non-profit filed a lawsuit to remove former President Donald Trump from the presidential primary ballot in 2024. This non-profit believed that Donald Trump's involvement in the January 6th riot should disqualify him from running for president. They used the fourteenth amendment as their reasoning. The Colorado Sun mentions that the fourteenth amendment states a person who took an oath to support the constitution shall not be able to hold office if they have been involved in an insurrection. In summary, Judge Wallace ruled that former President Donald Trump did incite an insurrection but would not remove him from the ballot.  The Aftermath  There are similar challenges going on around the country.   Background   Nikki Haley is currently running for the republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election. Currently she is polling at 8.7% according to fivethirtyeight . Last month, Haley was in fourth place but recently overtook Vivek Ramaswamy. Therefore, she now sits in third place. According to Nikki Haley's campaign website , she identifies as an Indian-American. Nikki Haley has served as a representative in the South Carolina State House as well as a Governor in South Carolina. In 2016, President Trump nominated her to be a ambassador to the United Nations.    Political Views   Rather than just stating her political views on her campaign website, Haley has a section that boast her results .   The Media  Former President Donald Trump is currently in civil trial regarding fraud. Here is what the news is saying. AP News has a left leaning bias according to AllSides . In this AP News article, it discusses prior testimony and lawsuits Donald Trump has faced. It even discusses how Donald Trump owned a USFL team. It also states that all the lawsuits and controversies mirrors his presidency. This Fox News article discusses how Donald Trump "blasted" a judge. According to Fox News, Trump did not like how his family was being portrayed. Fox News has a right leaning bias according to AllSides . Discussion I think most people are looking forward to the criminal trials instead of this one. Donald Trump had been in many lawsuits before he became a president. Prior to the 2016 election, people would have known about this if they researched him. Personally, I do not think this will affect his poll numbers.

Mike Pence Drops Out

2024 Presidential Election Former Vice President Mike Pence has dropped out of the presidential election race. In the 2016 and 2020, he was Donald Trump's running mate. After the 2020 election, Mike Pence decided to part ways with Donald Trump. What the News Is Saying  Politico posted an article titled " It ended in Sin City. But Mike Pence’s campaign was DOA for months " that discusses how Mike Pence's campaign failed. They state it is because of "Trumpism". This article discusses how Mike Pence became a politician and how long he was one. They believe that the moment Mike Pence aligned himself with Trump, it caused his downfall.   The Fiasco If you have been keeping up with politics recently, then you have heard about representative Kevin McCarthy being removed as speaker of the house. This is the first time in United States history that a speaker of the house has been voted out according to Forbes . Forbes has no bias towards any political party according to AllSides . Eight republicans and all of the democrats voted to remove him. This leaves the house without a speaker. Many republicans decided to vote for representative Jim Jordan as the new speaker of the house. After three voting rounds, Jim Jordan has not received enough votes to become the speaker of the house according to Forbes . A lot of people would say that this is one giant mess. Government Shutdown?

  Avoiding a shutdown According to  Brookings , on October 1st congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown with minutes to spare. To do this, congress passed a stopgap spending bill. This funds all federal agency by how much it was funded last year. However, this only last for 45 days.  What happens during a shutdown During a shutdown, many federal employees do not report to work. Essential employees like air traffic controllers will still report to work according to Brookings .  Brookings notes that government shutdown has a very low affect on the economy. They state that during the five week partial government shutdown in 2018 and 2019 11 billion dollars were lost for the GDP.     Dianne Feinstein  According to  AP News , democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein passed away at the age of 90. At the time of her death, Feinstein was the oldest sitting Senator. Senator Feinstein's biography states that she was elected in 1992. She holds the record for the longest time a women has spent in the Senate. She led several bipartisan groups. One of these group passed legislation to increase fuel efficiency in vehicles. Senator Feinstein also held a roll in the passing of the 1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban. This law expired in 2004. Some of her political stances include: LGBTQ+ rights, commonsense gun laws, and reducing climate change.  News Before her death, some news outlets stated that she should step down. According to United States Attorney's Office , Senator Menendez accepted money, gold bars, and a luxury car from three New Jersey businessmen in exchange for using his political power protect the businessman's businesses. The United States Attorney's Office also alleges that Senator Menendez used these bribes to benefit Egypt's government.  Senator Menendez is up for reelection 2024. He has made it very clear that he will not be resigning and will continue to run for reelection. He claims that he did not accept anything from the businessmen. The Overturning of Roe v. Wade: Will It Affect Election Results?

  Roe v. Wade  In 1973, "Jane Roe" filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas regarding its abortion laws. The lawsuit went all the way to the Supreme Court. In a 7-2 decision according to FindLaw , the Supreme Court stated that states cannot regulate abortions done in the first trimester. They could not make abortions illegal in the first trimester. They cited the due process clause in the 14th amendment as the reason behind this decision. According to the Supreme Court, the due process clause grants citizens the right to privacy.  In June 2022, the Supreme Court issued an opinion about Dobbs V. Jackson Women's Health according to FindLaw . In this case, the state of Mississippi called for a overturning of Roe V. Wade. In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court essentially overturned Roe V. Wade.     Who is he? Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or RFK Jr. belongs to a well known political family.  His father, Robert F. Kennedy Sr., ran for president in 1968 and his uncle John F. Kennedy was a president. Both were assassinated. Instead of jumping into politics at an early age, RFK Jr. devoted himself to environmental law and the welfare of children. These charges are are being filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Fulton County is located in the state of Georgia.       In November 2024, a president will be elected. It could be current President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump. Maybe a newcomer could surprise us all and win the election. In February 2024, the primaries will begin to decide who wins the presidential nomination for the republicans and the democrats. This blog will follow the polls, any controversies, and introduce some newer candidates that may be unfamiliar. This blog will also look at how different news channel report the same story.
